    Description

2016 Australia 1 oz Silver Lunar Monkey
The Perth Mint does it again with the newest installment for the 12-coin series. The Australian Lunar Series II Silver One Ounce 2016 Monkey is available to continue your beloved collection! The Lunar Series II is a follow-up series from Lunar Series I, that was in production from 1996-2007. The Perth Mint honors the Chinese zodiac calendar by minting a coin representative of that animal's year, in gold and silver. This ancient calendar is mainly used for fortune-telling but also used for self-awareness. Depending on the year you were born under, you can learn more about your personality and the decisions you tend to make based off of who you are.
The obverse highlights famous sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley's masterpiece of Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by the silver purity and legal tender value. Following the Perth Mint's tradition, of combining brilliant uncirculated finished background with a proof-like image. The reverse offers a different design that its gold counterpart. Not one but two monkeys are perched on a peach tree, a mom and a baby. Frivolously enjoying the fresh fruit, the monkeys are plucking one peach after another from the supple branches. The peach tree is significant here because it represents longevity and immortality. "Year of the Monkey," and the Chinese symbol are also etched on the reverse to complete the significance. Often because of its humanly traits, the monkey is respected and esteemed as the smartest animal. To this day, pictures of the monkey are painted on walls and doors of businesses to bring good fortune. Those born under the year of the monkey are active, sport loving people, who are great problem solvers. They are also energetic, flexible, and are selfless when it comes to helping others before themselves. Collectors, who enjoy the Australian Lunar Series, don't just invest in the year they were born under, but they ambitiously start a collection that will end with twenty four coins altogether.
