    Description

    Historical first year issue Professor Holloway Copper PENNY, dated 1857. The coin is of the variety J. MOORE (the maker's name) in incused letters on truncation of neck. The coin is 34 mm across, and weighs about 16.4 g.
    Thomas "Professor" Holloway was a colorful advertising geniusand purveyor of pills and ointments in 19th Century Europe.
    The
    Reverse depicts Hygeia (the ancient Greek Goddess of Health)  seated between two pedestals facing right and her right foot resting on a stool. A snake is climbing up a pedestal and drinking out of a cup held in Hygeia's left hand.
